Boxing has always been and remains one of the favorite and popular sports on our peninsula, the Crimeans have always been noticeable in the Soviet Union, in Russia and Ukraine, they have brought up many masters of leather gloves, notable on the world and national arenas. It is not surprising that, with rare exceptions, there are boxing clubs in all Crimean cities and urban-type settlements.

Boxing has always been and remains one of the favorite and popular sports on our peninsula, the Crimeans have always been noticeable in the Soviet Union, in Russia and Ukraine, they have brought up many masters of leather gloves, notable on the world and national arenas. It is not surprising that, with rare exceptions, there are boxing clubs in all Crimean cities and urban-type settlements.
Fate decreed that over the past ten days, the Simferopol boxing clubs Legion and Tavria, which, by all accounts, are leaders in this Olympic sport in Crimea, celebrated their anniversaries.
And this despite the fact that the “legionnaires” are only five years old, and the “Tavrians” are celebrating their twentieth anniversary today. It should be noted that usually, and this is typical for today's boxing, competition in the ring does not favor friendly relations between clubs. A pleasant exception in this aspect is the relationship, of course, outside the square of the ring, between the two anniversaries. After all, the head coach of the Legion, master of sports Ivan Vagner, and his current wards, candidates for participation in the Russian national team at the Games of the XXXII Olympiad in Tokyo 2020, Vadim Kudryakov and Pavel Doroshilov, come from Tavria. And among the “Tavrians” there are guys and mentors for whom the “Legion” did a lot during the formation of courageous and persistent guys in this sport and, we hope, in the near future, girls who will now have equal rights with the guys in the Olympic ring.
And here it cannot be emphasized that such relations in Crimean boxing have developed thanks to people who disinterestedly love boxing, who in recent years have headed the Boxing Federation of our republic – Boris Deych, Alexander Melnik, Sergey Borodkin, now head of the federation Sergey Voronkov. In many ways, thanks to their efforts, our boxing remains capable to this day on the All-Russian arena in all age categories, from children to adults.
But let's go back twenty years, to September 1997, when the master of sports, a graduate of the Faculty of Physical Education of the Crimean State University, Alexander Danilchenko made a lot of efforts to create the Tavria boxing club. The club is located on Pushkin Street, in the premises of the former culture club of the Selkhozdetal plant, where dozens of boys reached out to its first coaches, masters of sports Alexander Shpirny, Sergey Kozhukharev, Viktor Spirin, Oleg Melnik, and not only from the capital of Crimea, but also from other places peninsula to master the skills of one of the oldest sports within its walls. Two of them eventually became Honored Masters of Sports – Serhiy Dotsenko and Oleksandr Usyk, who, under the guidance of the honored coaches of Ukraine Oleksandr Shpirnov and Sergey Lapin, were able to conquer the Olympic heights in boxing. Sergey became the silver medalist of the Sydney 2000 Olympics, and twelve years later, in London 2012, Alexander won the gold medal of the champion in the first heavy weight, who later became the world champion among amateurs and professionals. Now the thirty-year-old Simferopol resident is considered the most promising “heavyweight” of the world, to whom experts predict a bright future in heavyweight. Moreover, having become the idol of thousands of boys, Sasha continues to train when, after a lot of foreign trips, he returns to his native Simferopol, in his modest club on Pushkin Street.
Agree, not every club can boast of such honored masters of sports or the “magnificent six” of international class masters of sports – Yuri Smirnov, Sergey Moskotov.Vitaly Mikhienko, Emir Asan Nibiev, Vyacheslav Kislitsin, Sergei Lapin Jr., over thirty masters of sports brought up here over the past years. But the most important thing that was achieved by the Tavria BC, whose helm is now standing ambitious and persistent Oganes Harutyunyan is that thousands of boys who did not become famous boxers, but loved the sport, went through the courage of the courage. With a twenty -year anniversary, friends!
