Press (1939–2004). 3-time Olympic champion (1960 and 1964). 11 times world record holder (1959–68). She was the first in the history of sports to overcome the barriers of 17 and 18 meters in the shot put and 58 and 59 meters in the discus throw. Pupil of the School of Champions, created in Leningrad by V.I. Alekseev. Represented the sports society Trud (Leningrad). Graduated from Leningrad. engineering builds. Institute (1962). Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences (1974). The winner of the Olympic Games in Rome (1960 – shot put, Olympic record 17 m 32 cm) and Tokyo (1964 – shot put 18 m 14 cm and discus throw, Olympic record – 57 m 27 cm); silver medalist (1960) in discus throwing. European champion (1958) in discus throw (52 m 32 cm) and bronze medalist in shot put (15 m 53 cm). 2-time European champion (1962) in shot put (18 m 55 cm – world record) and discus throw (56 m 91 cm). 16-time champion of the USSR (1958–66) in decomp. disciplines. World record holder in shot put (5 times, best result in 1965 – 18 m 59 cm) and discus throw (6 times, best result in 1965 – 59 m 70 cm). Member Council for Physics. culture and sports under the President of the Russian Federation. 1st Deputy prev. Union grew. athletes. She was awarded the Order of Lenin (1960). The author of several books, including The Price of Victory (1977), This is not light athletics (1982).
