The 356-year-old pedunculate oak, growing in the Olkhovsky district of the Volgograd region, claims to win the annual All-Russian competition Russian Tree of the Year. Voting starts on May 1 — you can leave your vote for Olkhovsky Healer at www.rosdrevo.ru.

According to the information of the Regional Committee for Nature Protection, Olkhovsky Healer, as well as its competitors, was approved by the certification commission of the All-Russian program Trees – monuments of wildlife as a contender for the title of tree of the year. All participants are amazing natural rarities that grow in different regions of the country and are the natural, cultural, historical, spiritual heritage of Russia.

Voting on the site will last until August 1. The winning tree will be awarded a diploma and a certificate for examination and recreational activities by specialists from the Healthy Forest Wood Expertise Center.

We add that this oak grows in the specially protected natural area Belogorsky Holy Trinity Kamenno-Brodsky Monastery and is one of the oldest trees in the Volgograd region. The age of the plant is 356 years, and the height is 17 meters. In 2016, the oak was awarded the status of Tree – a monument of wildlife. Numerous springs flow next to it: the locals believe in their healing power, which nourishes the giant.

Oak and the surrounding area attract numerous tourists, residents and guests of the Volgograd region.
