Another free sports channel will appear in Germany

A second free-to-air sports channel is to be launched in Germany and will complement the Sport1 channel, formerly known as DSF. The name for the new channel is quite expected – SPORT2.

It should also be noted that there are also paid TV channels of the Sport family – Sport1 + and Sport1 USA.

For fans of satellite television, this information is interesting primarily because the Sport1 channel broadcasts openly from the Astra 1M satellite on the following broadcast parameters: 12480 Ver SR 27500 FEC 3/4, DVB-S / MPEG-2. Whether the new sports channel will be broadcast from this orbital position or elsewhere is still unknown.

The open channel Sport1 does not show the most interesting sports competitions and vaguely resembles  TV channel Sport 2 that has gone down in history.

You will not see live broadcasts of the German Bundesliga or any other top competitions on Sport1. But broadcasts of German handball or hockey are always present in the Sport1 program guide.

Note that despite the open broadcasting, these channels are still not absolutely free for German viewers, because in this country there is a tax on television, which amounts to 18 euros per month per household.
